Awakening environmental awareness at school in Oleśnica, Poland
As part of our ongoing commitment a Sustainable Rawlplug, we have been helping awaken environmental and ecological awareness among children in the Oleśnica community.
Everyday ecology for school children
To support this goal, Rawlplug sponsors the annual ‘Ekologia na co dzień’ (Everyday Ecology) initiative for pupils from years 1-6 at the Oleśnica (Lower Silesia) John Paul II primary school no.7.
As part of the initiative, children are encouraged to present their views on what ecology means to them and how they see it as part of their day-to-day lives and those of their families. In this way, the initiative seeks to make children aware of the importance of ecology and the environment. It is hoped that the long-term benefit of this raised awareness will be the emergence of an environmentally conscious and responsible generation of young people.
After initially being introduced to the topic, children are given three weeks to gather their thoughts, record their observations and then produce a presentation on what Everyday Ecology means to them. The participants are then judged in two categories – years 1-3 and years 4-6 – with the best three presentations from each category rewarded with a prize funded by Rawlplug.
Rawlplug’s commitment to encouraging environmental awareness
“We are committed to ensuring the wellbeing of the natural environment. As an integral member of the community, Rawlplug believes that education is key to ensuring the long-term health of our natural surroundings. The Everyday Ecology initiatives awakens interest among children and provokes thought. We hope that this interest and thought helps shape the development of environmentally conscious citizens of the future.”
